District News
The Amistad District Committee has District meetings at the First United Methodist Church, 100 Spring Street, Del Rio Texas.  We will be meeting in the basement of the Church every 3rd Thursday of the Month. The Roundtable training will continue to be at the LDS Church every 1st Thursday on Kings Way St., Del Rio, Texas.

Congratulations to the entire District and Unit volunteers for helping Amistad District Achieve Centennial Quality District 2008.  Amistad was the only District to achieve the recognition; this could not be possible without the high caliber of volunteers in our District. HIGHLIGHTS:  Amistad District achieved the $50,000 + goal by end of 2008. (FOS collection of over 94%.  Amistad District ended the year with an increase in Units, an increase of 26.6% in membership for a total of 1168 youth members.  Amistad District met the standards and increased categories, Centennial Quality Units, new units, membership growth, youth retention, Friends of Scouting, Unit retention, number of Unit Commissioners and recruited 4 new District Committee members.

The Nominating Committee, Keith Beazer, George Pride, with Tom Lee’s help put together a slate of District Personnel.  The new officers were sworn in at the District Banquet.

The volunteer recognition committee put together a great Recognition District Banquet.  Humberto Torres Jr. did a great job as event Chairman. Thank you all the volunteers that donated items and helped.  Keith Beazer did a great job acting as District Chairman in 2008.  Thank you Keith.  Joseph Cordova will be serving as Amistad District Chairman for 2009.  Joseph is an attorney from Eagle Pass.  He is working Federal Public Defender Program in Del Rio.

George Pride is serving a second term as District Commissioner.

The Amistad District Recognition Banquet was held Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 7 p.m. The location was at the LDS Church 420 Ham Lane Uvalde, Texas.


Camping:
Camp Fawcett is only open for unit camping on certain dates each month.  Camping dates for Camp Fawcett are listed at the link below . Please contact the Council office if you plan to attend on any weekend. Do not forget to file you tour permits ahead of time.
